Arrow Most efficient upgrade for my rig.....

Hey guys! I've been thinking on what's the best upgrade I can get for my rig, taking the best money:fps increase ratio into account. Most people have been telling me that a new CPU would be best, and I've been really thinking about that. I just want you guys to give some other suggestions and maybe motivate me more to get a new CPU. Thanks guys! And one more thing. I'm not looking for a super mega top end rig like something with an i7 Extreme with an HD 4870X2 crossfired thrice.....right now I can run COD5 at max settings on 1440 by 900 while getting 40FPS which is more than I ever asked for.

I'm thinking something like an e8400 would do you well but I'd personally jump up to a quad if I were you. Something like the q9550 or so would be fun. If COD5 is all your playing then the 8800gt should serve well for a while. What's your budget, and what other games do you play?

Would an E8400 be able to run GTA IV smoothly? I suppose that GTA IV is more CPU dependent and that's why I'm getting super-lag even with my 8800GT. When these two are combined, would I get smooth FPS at 1440 by 900?

E8400/EP45-UD3P/4GB 800+MHz DDR2 would be an epic upgrade. Not sure how much that would run your side of town though...

If you want GTA IV to run smoothly, get a quad core. My Q6600 at 3.4 has no problems at all with it.

On a side note, IV is a step back from San Andreas in my books. There's so many things missing...today, I played SA for 2 hours. All I did was take hydras and start "dogfighting" with other hydras and helicopters while I had full wanted stars, had a blast!
