Default Help me build a $600 Gameing PC

My friend Justin wants a gaming PC but doesn't have alot of cash.

He already has a 22" acer monitor. He wants me to keep the build at $600 range.

Any ideas on how to cut costs or get more bang for my buck?

(This is like the 5th revision of the parts list for this PC *sigh* )

Video Card: MSI N9800GT 512OC 512MB Dual slot Cooler $114.99 after MIR

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E7300 Wolfdale 2.66GHz 3MB L2 Cache $119.99

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R Intel P45 104.99 After MIR

RAM: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 1066 $44.99

Hard Drive: SAMSUNG SpinPoint T Series HD501LJ 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache $54.99

Power Supply
: Rosewill RP550V2-D-SL 550W v2.01 SLI/CrossFire Ready Power Supply $59.99 after MIR

Case: Sunbeam Transformer IC-TR-US-BA-WOPSU Black Steel ATX Full Tower Case 44.98 after MIR

DVD Drive: ASUS Black 18X DVD Drive Model DVD-E818A3T $19.99

Monitor: Acer 22" (my friend already acquired this card for free)

GRAND TOTAL: $564-ish after MIR + 47.99 S&H = $611.90

You might want to go for a slightly cheaper motherboard for a low-budget build like this, as you can't always count on MIR's.

Is your friend going to be overclocking? If not then you could even go cheaper on the RAM.

Also: Even though I have a Rosewill PSU I would get something of a better brand...Possibly Antec or OCZ

Maybe this?

Antec Basiq 500w

For memory, how about this?

I second this. Especially if the build depends on making it under budget, you need to look into other options.

This would be my suggestion: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128345

Relating to the Power Supply, I've found OCZ to really stand behind their product. Considering this is $59.99 before MIR, and only $24.99 after, I think it's an Easy Choice.

OCZ StealthXStream 500W

Edit: Spend the Saved money from the Supply on a better Hard Drive

Will 500 watts give me plenty of extra room for overclocking?

it's more than enough. 400 might even be sufficient, but let's stay with 500.
an OC'd CPU doesn't draw that much more power.

I'm sure it will be more than enough...9800 GT's aren't very power consuming. I didn't realize you were overclocking, I would go ahead and get the 5$ more ram then. (Although I have 6gigs of G. Skill PC-6400 and I still have a 3.4GHz overclock on my 6000+) Although Intels have a higher FSB that would generally push the RAM more.(If I'm right in that assumption.) I would still just pay the extra $$$ for the better RAM.

I have just completed the 'analysis' at sli zone for Power Supplies...that Supply could actually run SLI if the board would support it. Running two cards requires ~357w with 2x 8800GT's...same thing as 9800GT if I'm not mistaken. Since it doesn't, it should be more then enough for what you need.

EDIT: By the way...Get him a Burner. This one is great.
Samsung DVD Burner
