Default A few questions on overclocking.

hi guys i am new to overclocking just have few doubts hope you guys can help me out .
first thing is one thing i dont understand is what type pf ram you need to overclock like if you have intel q6600 what ram you need like someone told me the max you can installed with q6600 is 1066mhz if that so why people buy 2000mhz ram , i mean how you can decide how many mhz ram you can have .
2nd question is if your processer FSB is 1066 you can have 1066mhz ram max without overclockingis that right ?
3rd i saw on some hardware sites that people are useing 2000mhz ram ? is that mean if you dont want to overclock your system or cpu then you can only use ram which matches your processer FSB speed is that correct ?
one more question people do extreme overclocking like 5or 6ghz like someone did with phenom 2 6ghz with liquid cooling what diffrent things they do in comprision to a normal person and AMD dont support ram more then 1066 when they do overclocking like 6ghz what speed their ram is working
i really apreciate you guys if you can give answer PLZ

The FSB of a Q6600 is 1066Mhz. Most people use 1:1 dividers when overclocking so their ram speed matches their FSB. So 1066MHz ram would go with a FSB speed of 1066MHz. Your memory speed does not have to match your FSB. For extreme overclocking they do not use water cooling. They use liquid nitrogen. You can't run liquid nitrogen forever so it is just for records and benchmarking.

What?

A 1:1 ratio on a q6600 at stock speeds would have the ram running at 533mhz.

There really isn't an set max for ram speed, but most motherboards (and ram sticks) top out around 1200mhz ddr2 ram. ddr3 can go higher (past 2000mhz) because they are made differently.

For extreme cooling, ln2 (liquid nitrogen) is usually used. It can cool parts to way below 0c, so it's a lot better than water cooling.

Remember that not every motherboard will let you modify your FSBRAM clock. Usually those made with overclocking in mind will let users modify their FSB/DRAM ratio, but others will either have that ratio locked or not visible.
