Sorry, I posted in the wrong section. Please Delete.

Hey, my mom's looking for a new laptop for her business and for use at home. I'm planning on putting Mcafee on it as I already have an extra license lying around. It would need to be able to watch videos and dvds, burn cds and dvds, use teh interwebs , upload pictures, and be fast enough that you wouldn't be sitting for a while waiting for it to start up, as we have had that problem with computers in the past. Like no 1.20 GHz atom processors with 512 Mb ram . She wants to save money, aka no more than $600 if possible, but does not want a pile of crap. I really wish I could build her a pc, but she wants a lappy. I found this on Newegg, is Acer or the laptop any good? Thanks in advance and + reps for good advice.

She is a member of costco, so if there's a good deal there, she could shop there. And a card reader for sd and microsd is prefered as well, but we could always settle for a usb card reader if necessary.

Thanks for the suggestion, but isn't it a better deal to buy from newegg, or is it better to buy from Dell, as I don't think I'll be using their tech support anyways. I have you all . She really doesn't want to spend more than $550 if possible. Cheaper is always preferred.

I just found this from Gateway on Newegg which has more ram, less hdd space, slightly slower cpu, and integrated 5 in 1 card reader. The hdd space is not an issue and I would think the processor is fast enough. It has good reviews for battery life and looks promising. Any more suggestions?

Cool, I'll show her later, but I don't think she'll be willing to spend $642 with tax. I will try asking her and see what she says.

I bought my wife this compaq cq60 220us last week for $449, it's about the exact same laptop and she loves it. I'm using it right now in fact.

I would think either this or the newegg suggested one right above would work, they seem to be about the same. Not gonna find anything better than those at this price point. Could configure a Vostro 1510 for that price too, I had a 1500 recently and thought it was pretty solid after getting rid of the unnecessary stuff.

What is the difference in speed between the 2 computers? I think the main difference in the cpus is that the t3400 has 1 MB L2 cache and t5750 has 2 MB L2 cache. The gateway has 160 GB hdd and toshiba is 250 GB, but that's not a big deal as she'll never utilize anything close to that. The FBS is 667 for both, but the toshiba has 3GB of ddr2 800, while the gateway has 3GB ddr2 667. Wouldn't the ram perform the same, b/c I'm definitely not messing with bios? Are the speakers good on either of these models? Thanks.
