I think you have an OEM motherboard, which doesn't allow overclocking. Is it a brand computer like a Dell, or Compaq, or something like that?

Where oh where to begin. What are you going to be doing with the comp? Gaming, video, music editing, surfing the web? How much do you want to spend? How extreme do you want to overclock? Air cooling? Watercooling? The possibilities are endless. Really depends on what your personal needs are.

gaming err max of about 2000 pounds and overclock the processor to get about 4ghz+ out of it and i have no idea about cooling and stuff

Primarily gaming huh. Ok, 3 more question; how much do you want to spend? What kind of cooling do you want to use? Are you set on staying with Intel or would you consider AMD?

either one really i dont mind....what is best cooling to use...and budget is about 2000 pounds

Well, for beginners to overclocking, it's usually best to start off with air cooling. It's the easiest, and the cheapest. As much as I hate to say this, AMD's are actually better at gaming than Intels unless you do some major overclocking. However, an Intel cpu at 4ghz (which can be done on air cooling) is a pretty powerful gaming cpu. I am not very familiar with UK pricing, or AMD's for that matter, so maybe some of our other members can jump in on this one.

That being said, I don't want to just say "buy this system here". I think it would be best to ask around a bit, get some different opinions, check out different prices and what not, and ask as many questions as you like. Our many members are always looking to build up systems for people. It's my bedtime.
