Question Epic rate drop with Intel GMA 965

*Edit* Meant "*Frame rate" in the title but, oh well. *Edit*

I'm trying to help out a friend whose having issues with games on their laptop. I understand integrated graphics are NOT ment for gaming [especially Intel graphics] but, all they're trying to do is play Halo and a few other less graphically intense games. I know Halo runs just fine on my laptop with Intel's GMA 945 graphics so, I don't get why they're having problems with their frame rate dropping on a laptop with GMA 965 graphics.

Specs:
Intel Pentium Dual Core T2370 @ 1.73GHz.
3GBs of RAM.
Intel GMA 965 Express Chipset with the latest drivers installed.
Windows Vista Home Premium SP1

Thanks!

If you say it runs fine on yours I agree with you as to why it shouldnt for your friend's 965.

Only thing I can say to that is that he most likely has malware/viruses. He should check for those, and do a defrag if necessary. If not, a format would be the last option that doesn't involve upgrading.

That would be the X3100? If so for lack of a better suggestion and to save time consider updating/reinstalling drivers? Run 3DMark on both her score should be higher than yours.

*She just did a clean install of Windows not too long ago but, I'll suggest that just to be safe. Especially if no anti-virus software was installed right away.

Did she forget to install the video drivers? That would do it...

If not, make sure her drivers are as updated as yours. Or if her's are newer then roll her's back and see if that helps.

Not installing drivers would give like 800x600 resolution I believe. But I am still for driver issue. Run 3DMark06 just so we can see is it reporting normal?

Yes, but you never know, I had a friend who I walked through reinstalling Windows on one of his computers, he used it without video drivers for about a month until I went over his house and went

No, she did not forget to install the video drivers. The default ones [I think] that came with the OEM disk [HP laptop] were installed. She completely removed the older drivers and software for them before updating. Same issues with the older video drivers, I believe.
