It actually sounds like an overheating problem, open up the case, let it cool down and try again.

Yeah did the old card do this?? i assume not... I would try the card in another rig... I went through 3 x700s before i got one that worked... ( and it only kinda works ) After that its gotta be driver/os issue.

i just buy a video card for my bro (6600gt)USED)since i installed it i get lag shot but i get decent FPS?

hmm could be a power issue, 350 watt is the minimum requirement for the 6600GT, plus you might have some other high power consumption components in the computer which are taking the power. What you could try is lowering the clock speed of the graphics card to reduce its power usage and see what happens. Alternatively you could decrease the CPU clock speed + voltage and see if that does anything.

The final thing I could think of would be that there is no enough free memory avaliable and it keeps having to take data from the hard drive, but that would reduce the FPS so I don't think this is the cause. Rather unlikely though as he has quite a lot of RAM
