Hi guys,

I'm building a system for a friend of mine who's current system is literally dying on him.

Symptoms include: AMD Athlon CPU being randomly underclocked FROM STOCK, system beeping and random restarting.
Currently we believe it could be the PSU playing up as it might not be supplying enough voltage to the motherboard.. who knows..?

That's his current system (been up and running for about 2 weeks since last problem).

He's waiting for the i7's to price drop so he's saving for a MAJOR upgrade at the beginning of next year, but as his current system isnt too reliable, he wants a temporary system for programming and TF2 action.

So the new system I've put together is as follows (all prices in AUD):

CPU Intel e5400 $134
MOBO Asus p5ql-pro $139
GPU Gainward 1gb 9600GT $131
RAM Kingston 2x2g 1066 HyperX $89

The RAM might be a bit overkill, so that can be replaced with 800 version @ $75AUD

Any suggestions?

If you can get the 4770's over there i would suggest that over a 9600 gt.

If you suspect the PSU are you going to be replacing it or pairing it with the new system?

I'll be lending him my Silverstone Zeus 650 first to see if thats the problem. If it is, then he'll use that for the new build until his i7 upgrade.
