Are you sure? I always thought as long as it was within it's normal rage of voltage operation, it didn't really hurt the lifespan of the chip.
Barely anyone keeps there computer for 10 years though, especially on here!

Should you overclock? Yes. Performance increase? Yes. Will your chips lifespan be shortened? No unless you push ungodly amounts of volts through it.

The only way your chips lifespan will shorten at all is if you put too much voltage through it. The clocks themselves don't affect lifespan whatsoever. You should be able to at least hit 3.2ghz at stock volts. My Q9550 is running at stock voltage right now at 3.6ghz. That being said I would definitely overclock. You will see a large increase in games and your everyday processes will be faster. Your processor will be perfectly fine as long as you keep it cool, and at stock volts that shouldn't be a problem at all.

By the way, I just RMAed my quad no problem after having it overclocked it's entire life. There is no way for Intel to know that you overclocked their chip.

Either voltage or heat will kill a chip, but the combination of high voltage and high heat will kill a chip fastest. Speed alone will NOT hurt a chip.

I got my Q6600 past 3GHz at stock voltage, with the aid of some healthy air cooling, and I'm not concerned in the least.

The other risk is loss of data due to flaky operation at an unstable OC. Test the snot out of your system before trusting it with irreplaceable data. And ALWAYS back up your data, whether you OC or not.

So if i use stock clock to oc than i will not shorten any lifespan isn't it right?
Some one said there might be a risk of lost of data? It is ture? If so what speed will i be able to reach on stock clock? My CPU runs at 1.280V stock

I think you meant stock volts there, not stock clocks... on stock volts as others have said, you should be able to get to ~3GHz, which is a 25% OC. This should be manageable on the stock cooler. Any higher and I recommend getting an aftermarket cooler...

in any case, I suggest you read the OC guide in this forum...
