Default Should i overclock? Can a gain any performance increase?

A friend told me to overclock my CPU and I was thinking is it worth overclocking but firstly i find my CPU is enough for my daily use secondly i don't want to void the 3 year warranty and I build this rig last year. I want to ask if i overclock my cpu will i gain any slight performance increase? Also i don't want to shorten my life span.

You will get an performance increase...

You won't need your warranty anyways, honestly, did you ever see someone RMA a CPU?

Intel cannot prove either way if your chip is overclocked - they just have to take your word for it.....

Overclocking will give good performance boosts in general - that Q6600 should be able to get to 3.2ghz easily (mine will do 3.2ghz at stock volts even)

Have a look in your motherboards bios and set the CPU multiplier to 8 and the FSB to 400
That will then run at 3.2ghz and should be fine

It will shorten the lifespan but its normally around 10~15 years before a CPU stats so noticeably decrease in performance. Overclocked you may get 7~10 years out of your CPU.

QFT - it may technically void your warranty but you can still RMA it easily.

No the lifespan will not be reduced. That CPU will be outdated many many years after it starts to die...

and if you're trying to play FSX, you are going to need the fastest quad you can get your hands on.

...like i said it won't reduce the lifespan as such. Also, that kingston value ram is being underclocked at the moment. That RAM could potentially get the CPU to 3.6GHz without even being overclocked, so it's not a bottleneck.
