Specs:
__________________Asus P6T Intel X58 Intel Core i7 950 3.07ghz 12GB (6x 2GB Corsair PC1600) GTX 285 1GB Vista Home Premium 64-bit Ok, so I go into my BIOS and it has an Ai Tweaker Menu. The first option is Ai Overclock Tuner, which the availability of: [Manual] [Auto] being default [D.O.C.P.] Overclocks DRAM frequency by adjusting BCLK frequency. [X.M.P.] This is for eXtreme Memory Profile Technology which I don't want to mess with. So first I tried D.O.C.P. since it was a pre-custom select, which boosted my: DRAM to 18053mhz CPU Clock to 45333mhz BCLK Frequency to 100 PCIE Frequency to 150 CPU Voltage to 1.65v [RED] DRAM Bus Voltage to 1.66v [RED] 1.65v doesn't exist. QPI/DRAM Voltage to 1.9v [RED] this is bad. But it was preset so I tried it anyway. Saved and Exit. System tries to reboot and shuts off. I power up and it notifies me that Overclock Attempt Failed! Go back into BIOS and decide to do a Manual OC within the Blue parameters following the book. DRAM - 15053Mhz CPU Clock - 4000Mhz (to test and not push it) BCLK - 100 PCIE - 150 CPU Voltage - 1.20v [BLUE] QPI/DRAM Volage - [Auto] DRAM Bus Voltage - 1.64v [BLUE] Save and Exit. System tries and shuts off. Overclock Attempt Failed! P.S. I do NOT see my Multiplier anywhere in my BIOS. In my ASUS Manual it has CPU Ratio Setting [Auto] 12.0 13.0 14.0 15.0 through 20.0 Which I was thinking was the multiplier, but it is Defaulted to [Auto] and cannot be adjusted, even under [Manual]. P.S.#2 I had originally ordered an i7 940 2.93Ghz, but they sent me an i7 950, which I didn't know were out yet. I cannot find any info on Overclocks for this damn CPU and I have epicly failed so far. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. In addition, I've been running CPUID for the past 2hrs and the Core Speed is all over the place. From 1600.1Mhz to 3207.27Mhz and everything in between. Is it normal to have that sort of constant fluctuation?

The fluctuation you are seeing is C1E / Speedstep, which saves power by clocking down your cpu.
Have you tried putting in the number through your keyboard when you are at your mutli? Try typing 20 and pressing enter and see if that changes it.

You need to turn speedstep off. It changes the multiplier and that is why your clocks are going down and back up.
Edit: Just beat me. OP. Fill in your system specs in user cp.

Ok I filled out my User CP.
__________________Thanks for info on Speedstep. I will try to punch in numbers for Multiplier, but again....every adjustment I've made towards overclocking has resulted in the PC shutting off. I mean, if all I did was set the DRAM - 1600MHz, CPU Clock - 42333MHz, and DRAM Bus Voltage - 1.64v and just leave the rest on Auto, it should be fine but man it is being difficult!!

And of course, after you get this all straighten out, how bout some benches. Are you going to be doing some air only over clocking, or some WC? Just curious. As I might sell my 920 to my eventual father in law, and was thinking about a 950.

I don't think I'll delve into WC Cooling. Mostly just Air. The CoolerMaster V10 Hybrid is a MONSTER.
__________________I'll download a Benchmark Program shortly and give you a quick post, as well as try the ICH to 1.3v tomorrow morning. But does anyone have suggestions or opinions on why after Save Changes and Exit, the PC shuts off to reboot. But doesn't fully boot up. The fans will come on and get increasing louder over a period of 20-30sec before shutting off. The monitor won't boot as well. And I bought 2x GTX 285, and they only sent me 1 So I will save the 285s in SLI bench for another day.

It boots, then turns off and then boots again?

As soon as I Save and Exit...The system shuts down for about 0.5sec and begins to reboot. But only the fans will turn on. I don't get the "beep" then monitor turns on and begins booting. Monitor stays in Stand-by. But when it auto-shuts off. I turn it back on and it will then boot up, but once it gets to BIOS it will post the Overclock Attempt Failed!

When your overclock is not stable enough to boot into your operating system, you will not get a POST beep.
