Default First timer, please critique parts list

NewEgg Link: http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/Pu...umber=10293325

Am I missing anything or would you do something different?

My primary objective for this PC is graphics design work. My significant other is a professional graphics artist and I am learning adobe after effects (she is teaching me lol). So I built this system with adobe cs4 after affects and maya in mind, gaming is an after thought. I tossed in Nvidia GTX260 GPU'a for gaming purposes (should be plenty of horse power I think)

All of our work is heavy CPU not GPU intensive and storage is a must. My goal with storage is to have the OS on one drive by itself vista ultimate 64 and have one drive dedicated to software and cache only. The third larger drive is for general storage of files and such. So..

OS HDD dedicated and Software only HDD in Raid 0?
File Storage HDD large drive partitioned and on auto backup via partition.

I should be able to scrub timelines and render in real time with this setup. And game with wow in daralan with 60-100fps max settings. I am building this myself and I hope I got all the parts lol. I plan to overclock this as well, but I want super stability.

Thoughts?

Regards
Relic61

Dependent on where you use this system, you may want to review my Dual or Multi Partition and Why FAQ.

With video edition, lots of RAM is good... perhaps at least 6-8 gigs MB dependent, as some will use dual DDR2 and others may use triple DDR3 modules.

I can't believe I forgot to add a link to the parts list ops I have updated the original post to include a link to the parts list.

I've had a look.
Everything seems to be pretty much spot on. No doubt that system will do anything and everything you want it to.

I would question your reasoning behind the HDD arrangement. Are you planning to put the 2 160GB drives in raid? I hear 32MB cache sizes are better for raid. Might be a good idea to get 2 of the 640 drives instead, need to see what other people think too though.

Also, your gpu is not as spectacular as the rest of the setup - you will probably find yourself getting a new one or another 260 at some point. Though of course a 260 will run all games nicely.

edit:
from my experience with ddr2. having less dimms helps ram timing performance and overclocking stability, depending on the chipset, though this may not apply to ddr3.

That looks like a pretty good list. Are you sure 160GB is enough?

look closer
I think he is getting 2 of them plus a 640GB drive. Should be an interesting storage situation.

I had someone explain that the vid card I picked was an older card and that Nvidia replaced this card with the 216 core one. I have added these 2 on compare here. Can you offer any thoughts on this please?

ps: The $10 difference in these 2 cards makes me want to go with the 216 core...hmm

looks good
a couple of things though wouldnt you want to just go ahead and get the 1tb hard, also i believe if you check microcenter.com you can get the dvd burner for half that. IMO i wouldnt go with biostar but maybe you have had good expierence with them.

yes it would be wiser to go with the core 216.

The main reasons I want small HDD's is for more robust read times. From my understanding the super large capacity drives take much longer to read from. My goal was to have the OS by itself on one 160g drive and my software CS4 w/adobes cache on one 160g drive by itself and the 640 drive for file storage. I also have multiple terabyte external drive farm for backup and storage connected via eSata. I want fast scrub times and so the large terabyte drives would hinder that for me.
