This computer had a problem with being unable to boot. It'd reach the vista startup screen with the loading bar but would stay there with the loading bar animation forever.
__________________I cleared the CMOS but this didn't change anything. I tried reformatting, but I received BSOD at the end of the loading process (when it says "Windows is starting up.."). I deemed it to be a hard drive problem. I'm working with a brand new hard drive and still recieve the same BSOD at the same time. What's wrong? edit: My thinking of possible causes is either disk drive (doesn't make much sense though, it couldn't have caused the initial problem) or the SATA cable. I've already tried using different SATA ports.

What error does the BSOD give you? Type our what it says along with any error numbers. It is possible that it's your RAM though.

What message does the BSOD give you? It could narrow it down to what part is malfunctioning.

No. It goes to BSOD when I'm trying to reformat. You know when it's loading the stuff for it to reformat on the bottom gray strip, and at the very end it says "Loading Windows" or something like that? It BSOD at that time.

Have you tried it with the bare minimum of components? Such as only one stick of RAM, the only the OS HDD, just the DVD drive you're installing from and disable whatever else you can in BIOS. I don't know, maybe give that a shot. Otherwise, if it's still under warranty you could also try Dell Online Chat support.

I tried one ram stick at a time and also using different slots. I doubt both ram sticks broke at the same time.
