Why a BloodRage? There are cheaper X58 mobos... since he won't be overclocking nor need many features.
Why an Intel PRO/1000 GT? If you plan to upgrade the NIC, get the PCIe PRO/1000 GT or CT. If he wants TOE, get the Broadcom NetXtreme II.

I liked the SAS drive array, but the cost/storage ratio just wasn't in the right range. I realize I said that I would sacrifce capacity for speed, but upon further reflection and looking at what we are currently doing, 300GB isn't going to cut it. So, I decided to go with 2 WD Caviar Black 750's in a RAID 0. I looked at using 3 in RAID 5, but the added expense of a decent controller didn't make sense either. I wouldn't trust even a test machine's onboard raid controller with anything other than 0 (or 1).
The entire build, for those interested: LG DVD Burner Black SATA Model GH22NS50 - OEM COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UB Black /Blue Aluminum Bezel , SECC Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail 2x Western Digital Caviar Black WD7501AALS 750GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive - OEM GIGABYTE GV-NX72G512E2 GeForce 7200GS 256MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail OCZ StealthXStream OCZ700SXS 700W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Active PFC Power Supply - Retail 2x OCZ Gold 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Voltage Desktop Memory Model OCZ3G1600LV6GK - Retail ASUS P6T WS PRO LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Core i7 Processor Extreme Edition/Core i7 Processor Intel Motherboard - Retail Intel Core i7-950 Bloomfield 3.06GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80601950 - Retail Many thanks to everyone that pitched in. Even if your components didn't get picked, your suggestions were very helpful.

I'm not sure this will be anything short of non comparable to a server rack solution which you mentioned was your end result. I can't be sure but I don't think there is any servers currently running triple channel boards/setup. The RAM interaction will most definately be a key component for running a server OS and possibly the SQL engine and it's interaction with memory blocks. I'd suggest you discuss with each of the big boys IBM/HP/Dell to get a demo server in containing the new i7 xeon platform instead of this type of parts build. Your best bet is obtain a demo box from one of their labs, they always have them, just don't advertise it that it's available to smb's for use. IBM I know for a fact can actually demo your needs within their own environment barring any security or confidentiality aspects to your information of course. It's a non comparative in almost every case to server grade chassis and components vs desktop, load and stress is a key ingredient which should not be overlooked. Just my 2 cents, pass the beers please
![]() ......I'm glad I was paying attention to your last post 3 hours ago good luck
