So, I decided to go with 2 WD Caviar Black 750's in a RAID 0. I looked at using 3 in RAID 5, but the added expense of a decent controller didn't make sense either. I wouldn't trust even a test machine's onboard raid controller with anything other than 0 (or 1).

Many thanks to everyone that pitched in. Even if your components didn't get picked, your suggestions were very helpful.
That 700w unit is only good for 600w.

I would take this PSU instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341016

I would have avoided any memory speced at over DDR3-1333 and/or 1.5v. Many performance/enthusiast kits require a decent amount of tweaking to get 100% rock solid, bet-your-life-on-it, stable...even at their rated specs. Most will work fine at SPD defaults, but spending more on them just to use them that way is silly.

Such an epic WASTE! Even for this purpose! Get dualie Xeons @ 2.66GHz instead for around the same price, twice the bang. $570 for the CPU alone, now I've seen it all ~_~

EDIT: Okay, you need a single CPU. Needless to say you've already built it anyway xD... But for future reference, money can be spent better when building rigs, an extra $300 for a ~350-400MHz boost really is NOT worth the pricetag. Instead, get Raptors, up the RAM-age, a few Quadros (considering special video is not required in builds like these, the Quadros do have pretty powerful chips)

He's already mentioned that one physical CPU is the limit.
