ok from your mother board choice i saw you are going socket LGA775 and that HDD is good.
now for the boards. The Gigabyte is the one of the top motherbaords ever made. but it only supports crossfire. If you want to go ATI get the gigabyte you want to go Nvidia go with the Evga. best of luck.. dont forget to show us what you ordered and share your building moments with us

I know you said you did not need more than a 300GB HDD, but this is a very good HDD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148395. If you do want a smaller one, go with a Seagate Barracuda that uses SATA.

This is in the Intel forum but... if you can get an i7 with a decent board for under $1000, that's great and that should be the route you go. I'm not sure what you are leaning towards. If you decide to not go i7, please go Phenom II (x3 720 probably) and don't waste your money on old intel c2d or c2q. If you have to go intel, wait a few months for i5 or go i7 if you can fit it in your budget. You say you don't want a lot of cores, the Phenom II x3 720 is a great, cheap solution that OCs moderately well. But as I said, this is the intel forum, so go intel.

hdd? 1TB segate 7200.12 (all issues from 7200.11 are fixed) fastest 7200rpm drive out.
dvd drive? a lightscribe SATA 22x burner with lightscribe (LS only adds like $2-$3 to cost usually, so why not?).

If you're looking for the best optical drive, get this Pioneer. If you're looking for a good one under $25, LG makes great ones.
