Default been away a while!

Hey guys, took a break from messin with my PC for a while to look for some RL work! (no luck!). Anyways since I haven't been up to date for a while I was wondering if the 750i FTW is still a viable upgrade from my crappy 650i dell board. Saw them pretty cheap around here and ebay. Are the 780i's much better for the price difference? (still havent even upgraded my poor single 8800gt!)

Ya, no kidding. I have to be here nearly 24/7 just so I can barely keep up! hehe

But, just to give you some kind of a reply about the motherboard: I haven't heard any bad things about the 750i FTW, however, I have seen a couple of complaints regarding the 780i, and then comments like "you'd be much better off going with the 680i". I think it was concerning the performance somehow, but I don't really remember what's bad about the 780i, however, I do remember G|F.E.A.D|Killa saying that the NB cooling sucks (this was in chat like maybe 3-4 months ago). lol I remember him saying things like "I really miss my old EVGA 680i". He had the exact same one that I have.

So, I guess what I'm saying is that my initial reaction to your OP is that you would definitely be kicking ass with the 750i FTW.

yeah the 750i's are still good motherboards. The 780i has Tri SLI in it's favour and many minor updates but nothing spectacular.

If you don't need Tri Sli then the 750i is probably the best way to go however if you can find a good 780i for cheap then why not.

Hope I helped

EVGA for sure, but that's all I know because I don't yet know the difference between the FTW and the regular one. I suppose I could do my ultra-nerd/geek compare trick.

Edit: comparison failed because I can't find a way to compare the two.

Have you heard about the Xigmatek s1283V Dark Knight yet? It may not be a budget cooler, but for the way people talk about it on here, it certainly has a crazy price/performance ratio. I mean, I keep reading nothing but excellent things about it here on OCN. I think one of the reasons it's such an excellent performer is because of this new Heatpipe Direct Touch design that is out now: thanks to the direct touch of the heatpipes, the effiency has been greatly increased, and thus makes it possible to have a smaller heatsink that performs just as well as larger heatsinks of the "old" design. Some are claiming that it almost gives the TRUE equal competition (but again: almost).

There are other Xigametek s1283 coolers, but this one has the best fan.

For its size, ease of installation (and re-installation), and its price and performance, I don't yet know of a better CPU cooler than this.

Of course, there's also the Scythe Mugen-2 for a little less money, but it's enormous.
