Sorry about the respost, I think I put it in the wrong thread.
Hey guys, Ive posted here before and gotten some really helpful tips. I was hoping I can get help again. I was planning on building a pretty sturdy gaming PC. My computer is about 7 years old and Im planning on getting a new one. The problem is, I dont really know what parts to get. I was wondering if anyone can help me pick out the certain parts for building a computer, and my friend will build it for me. I really just want a computer that will run games like CS: Source smoothly with no choppy lagginess like on my current PC, and be able to watch HD videos on the internet like in youtube . I already have a mouse, a keyboard, and a monitor (a really old one, but will do). I was planning on buying the stuff on newegg. I play games like CS: Source, Call of Duty 4, and Day of Defeat) edit: If you guys can find a nice transparent case, that would be awesome too =] Also, I was planning on buying a laptop, but I decided to buy a netbook (because of financial issues) through either best buy or newegg to go with it , because I travel around a lot. I just need a standard netbook that runs smooth. One that can play internet videos smoothly, that doesn't lag much, and be able to hold a decent amount of music, movies in it, or word documents / files. I just need a standard one that will last me a good amount of time and will do these things. I also don't know if netbooks can play DVDs, but if they can, hopefully theres one you can find. edit: is this an ok netbook? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834152093 If you guys can help me out here, I would really really really appreciate it. The only problem is, my budget is only about $750-$800 for both the netbook and the PC that I'm planning to build. So yea, if you guys can help me, Id really appreciate it. I was hoping to spend around $450-$500 on the gaming PC and around $300 on the netbook because I'll use the PC more than the netbook. Thanks so much in advance. (Sorry if what I'm asking for seems noobish. I really don't know what a good running computer or netbook is supposed to do since I've never had one ) Thanks again. The computer parts seem kinda low-tech. I was hoping to find parts that would make the PC run smoother because I wanted to play games that need better parts like CS:Source because I was planning to use my PC more than my netbook
I was hoping to pay around $450-$500 for the gaming PC and I was hoping to pay around $300 for a netbook. Oh yea, do netbooks allow you to watch DVDs? And does this netbook seem ok? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834152093 Thank you so much for your response by the way =]. I really appreciate it. (Oh yea, and I live in the bay area in California by the way). |

I would get the lenovo s10 netbook its around 300 i think its bad ass~! As far as builing a good standard system everyone always says a GA-EP45-UD3P board is good to start and I would get a E8400 and ram is cheap have fun picking some, and that leaves enought to get a nice gtx 275 or a 260 or a 4790 or a 4780. Another board people reccomend is a P5Q PRO

okay, sounds good. Thanks for the help guys.
Sorry that I didn't tell you that I was going to use the gaming PC more than the laptop, and that I was gonna use it to watch HD stuff and play games that may need higher quality parts. Because I play games like CS:Source and Call of Duty4, and DoD. Thanks for the help though guys, I really appreciate it. And I live in Daly City near SF in the Bay Area. oh and i should mention,u dont have to have high tech ram, pssh im running CSS with ddr1 400mhz ram, with a ATI X850 with FULL HIGH Settings and i have 90fps and higher
ANYWAYS Ok HIGH TECH Stuff(well i tried and ur on a budget so its kinda harder) CPU:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103683 GPU:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814161273 Motherboard:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157157 RAM:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820178154 Hard Drive:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136075 Case:http://www.xoxide.com/clearacatxca.html PSU:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341010 TOTAL:$507 spend like 7 bucks more, but for the cd/dvd burner the one i listed so like in FULL total $520-$540 just spend a lil bit more then ur good to go But here is an idea, check ALL OF THESE PRODUCTS then tell me which one u want to downgrade(so like the ram,if its too high for u,ill see if i can find one cheaper) But im sorry that i broke ur chain of budget ![]() Here's what ill keep CPU,GPU,MOBO,Hard Drive the rest i would change to lower prices... the case seems like a ripoff,if u dont mind losing the Clear See through case i would find u a lower price one... Micro Center is a 44min drive if u dont mind

This seems great! For the case, I don't really need a see through case. If there is a cheaper and a better brand of a case in newegg that you can refer, and that can allow me to buy a better video card or CPU or something, then I think that would be better. Or maybe we can even find ones that are in a combo with like a CPU or a Video card or something that I see in newegg so that we can save money. Also, is this, for sure, gonna run HD movies and games like DoD, CS:Source, and CoD really smoothly? Thanks again for your help man. Last edited by rockeeee : 07-05-09 at 09:30 PM |

no problem dude
Yea i'll see if there is a better case,or at least like cheaper money dont change the cpu,its a triple core, which is SICK and people still buy it for gaming pc's today, but yea im thinking if i find a better case=i'll find a better GPU(the gpu i gave u was once the best GPU from ATI,but a long time ago) yes im sure about the run HD Movies for SURE!(Triple Core,ATI HD=HD),pfff it'll OUT RUN css or dod(out run as in it'll make it work VERY VERY SMOOTHLY with never any problems),Which COD is it? ill find a case for less money and ill see if i can find a GPU how much do u wanna spend for a gpu?(just to make it a lil tiny bit easier) ok i found a better case(and there are overviews on youtube) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811146055 NZXT BETA Case(not beta as in testing its the name)10 bucks cheaper, here is the review: now to find the GPU Here's 1:If u have a little bit more chug ching(about 50bucks more but this is defently better) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150351 Number 2:A lil more less then the one on top http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102833 Number 3:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102822 get one of these,i would go with number 1 or 2,but if u want the cheapest one, then number 3

If you plan on playing COD4, as computerfreak suggested, go with something in the ATI 4xxx familiy. I happen to know that a 3650 won't play it online without really bad lag. I installed it on my mom's XPS 420 and it was pretty terrible.
EDIT: I'm posting this from an Asus EeePC 1000H. It's a great little netbook too. However, currently netbooks don't handle HD video very well. They also don't have DVD drives. You can get a 12-15" laptop for around $350-400 as well that will do a little better with HD and has a DVD drive.
