I am saying that you use both (but not at the same time, of course). Too many people these days are ONLY using LinX/IBT, and then they think it's rock-solid stable. But Prime95's three tests must also be used.

I didn't say that. I said it's best to use Prime95 and LinX/IBT (but not at the same time, of course).

What's the difference between running linpack in OCCT and running LinX?

I use P95, I don't like OCCT much. I fail on prime95 when OCCT says stable.
Doesn't work for me.

Unlike OCCT's linpack test, you get to tell LinX exactly how many runs to aim for. With OCCT, it's just a length of time. Unlike OCCT's linpack test, you get to see how many runs have passed so far, and you get to actually see when the each run starts. Unlike OCCT's linpack test, if there's a difference with the "Residual" numbers, then it tells you and stops and changes the big green area to bright red indicating instability. OCCT doesn't. It just keeps going. With OCCT, it's just a matter of whether or not your system doesn't lock up, BSOD, or reboot. Unlike OCCT's linpack test, LinX takes like .001 seconds to open. OCCT can take anywhere from 4-5 seconds to around 10-15 seconds to open (it's extremely bloated). So, with OCCT's linpack test, you have much less control/options, and it's basically a blind test. It's just way too limited, and OCCT itself is just way too bloated. It's so bloated that it even forces the CPU to share some of its clock cycles between the test and the program itself. That's a big no-no when stress testing because it kills the accuracy of the test. In conclusion: it is my strong opinion that OCCT is useless (even for prime testing). I hate OCCT with every ounce of my being and I wish it would just go away for good.

TwoCables: wow dood.
__________________I'd suggest Linx if you want to get it over with in a hour or 2 or prime 95 if you are willing to run 8+ hour tests. I know TwoCables will have a problem with this, but I've seen that if I can do 50 passes in linx with most of my available RAM (about a hour and a half) prime95 can run forever.

It's not that LinX stresses harder than prime95 and therefore if you are LinX stable you are prime95 stable; it is simply that they test differently and find different errors (Some errors overlap of course).

if I were to use solely one program i'd use prime but two is always better than one so why not include linx. I wouldn't just use linx though cause i've passed linx and before and failed minutes into prime w/ the same settings
although I do find linx better to determine the max temperatures under load, prime never seems to put me at 99.9 percent utilization
