Default 1.36 = highest VID shipped. 1.45 max safe?

Hi there, just got my Megahalems and thought I'd raise my overclock on my E8600 to around 4.4ghz.

I have always thought due to people saying that the max safe voltage for a 45nm chip was 1.36. However I recently read that 1.45 is the max safe and 1.36 is the maximum VID intel will sell a chip at. Is this statement true because my E8600 will not pass a stress test at 4.4Ghz at 1.36v which is kind on a bummer. So, I have since bumped it up to 1.4v and running a stress test at the moment. I will not be keeping it at this voltage as I suspect it can do 4.4 at 1.38v But just working my way down the voltages first.

EDIT: When people say, for example, 4ghz on 1.25v, are you going from voltages you set in bios or through windows.

Thoughts?

My i7 max VID is 1.375 and it'll be stable 1.4?

OP, your CPU will be fine at those voltages and you can go all the way up to 1.5v (but not advised) as long as the temps are below 70C. Your 1.45v is perfectly fine for a 45nm chip but I would not go any higher than that

IMO settle for 4.3ghz.

It can probably survive at 1.4V, I would never go higher though if you want to have it for a long time. I had an E8600 before and got 4.4ghz @ 1.30V, VID of 1.2125. I play it safer than most people, but I've had bad experiences going over the recommended voltage in the long run.

1.5v is as high as you're going to want to go.

Pretty much any voltage that your Air Cooler can handle will be safe, by the time you reach deadly voltages, your Air Cooler will have had enough.

Ah thank you very much. Great to hear. Well stress testing with OCCT and temps won't go any higher than 45c

What an awesome chip you had! Damn, did you have any bad experiences with the E8600? or was it another 45nm chip?

OP, are these voltages in the BIOS, or actually in Windows using a program to tell you the voltages? You should go by your voltages in Windows more than the voltages in the BIOS, since the BIOS voltage will rarely stay that high.
