Default I'd like to lap my Q6600.

So i'd like to lap my Q6600. I'd like to buy a kit instead of like 10 sheets of sand paper for each grit. Is there any website that sell's kits? I'd perfer performance-pcs.com. Also i lost the cover thing for the bottom of my CPU, can i get those somewhere? i plan on wearing gloves and using a paper towel to hold the CPU. Is this good enough or should i do something else?

Thanks!

For the sandpaper, most home improvement stores will have what you need.

I went to my local lowes and the least they have is a 10 pack of each. I only need like 2 sheets at most. I saw a kit somewhere earlier but i cannot find it at the moment.

I got mine from SVC. It comes with 4 sheets each of 6 different grits (220-2500 grit), and a piece of glass to lap on.

Here are some others:

Some non-slip shelf liner will be just fine to hold the CPU in place. It also won't damage the underside of the chip. Those covers are hard to come by unless you get a new CPU.

I guess those kits would suffice? I went through 2 sometimes 3 of each grit. I went to ace hardware for mine, they sell individual grits going up to 1200 I believe. I just ordered a separate sheet of 1500 online.

Edit: if you have a cpu foam use that... if not get a foam paint brush and tear the end off and use that. NO on the rubber gloves... if one of the pins happens to get caught on your rubber glove it could be ripped out.

There aren't any pins on Intel CPUs.

OP: There's no point using anything above like 1200 grit. Even 800 grit is enough to get your CPU perfectly flat, so anything above that is purely for aesthetics.

Go to an auto parts store and look for sandpaper in the body work section. They usually have up to 1500 grit at least.
