Heh, I keep seeing people trashing i5 but based on what?

My i5 build cost me £380 wheras an x58 build would of cost me around £500, so an extra £120 for what? 4 more threads which I will never use.

About the SLI/Crossfire argument

look here - http://anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=3649&p=2

Around 5 FPS difference with HD5870 crossfire between x58 and P55. If you were running crossfire 5870's would you really miss those 5 FPS? Unless of course you build the rig for benching only. Obviously if you were running crossfire with those you'd be silly to go P55 though as it wouldn't be a budget build and you'd may aswell go x58... ;x

If I was you though I'd just ditch that 750i for a UD3P..

Yeah I would say i7 all the way if you have the money go for it. If not you can upgrade something else or get something non-computer related. Lol btw I am hopefully getting a new monitor for christmas with a new game.

Am I going to notice the difference between it and my sig rig, probably not. I only did it to try out something new.
A Q6600 to an i5? Heck yes you'll notice a difference.

From the OP's Q9550 @ 4ghz the difference in performance will not be much at all.

No, I would honestly wait. Yes Core i5 is an improvement over what you have now, but what you have now is still really good and capable of anything that you could possibly think of. I would wait and get an i7 because it's a bigger performance improvement for you.

im thinking of getting the P55 one because the X58 motherboards are STILL expensive

Id go with the x58 with the 920. The 1366 is better for dual cards. Plus I just like it better lol you cant argue with my reasoning.

yea but the motherboards(or at least the EVGA ones)are still expensive(almost over 200 still) and i would spend more than 50 for a X58 motherboard and i only need 30 for a P55 I7
