Default First time building my own PC! Help!

Okay, I was originally going to buy a Laptop for around £800 +/-£100. I asked a few friends an they said there is actually no point because I wont actually be moving it much (or at all) and for that price i could make my own custom computer which is probably 2-3x better. So I have been thinking and though why not. Now here comes the problem, before 3 days ago I had pretty much no clue to how to put a computer together, except basic knowledge. Well I have looked around a bit and came up with a build. I need all you great overclockers and computer experts opinions. Also I'm pretty sure they are all compatible with each other but please do check, especially if the motherboard is ATX micro and the case takes ATX? Live in the UK so its all in £ (pounds).

Processor: Intel Nehalem i7 920 S1366 2.66GHz

Motherboard: MSI S1366 Intel X58M ATX A L

Case: Antec Three Hundred Case Black

PSU: Corsair Memory 850W Ultra Quit 80+ ATX PSU

RAM DDR3: Corsair Memory Corsair 6GB 1600MHz DDR3 CL9

Internal Hard Drive: Samsung 1TB 7200RPM 32MB S300 3.5

Monitor: Samsung 22" T220 Rose Red 2ms DVI TFT

Graphics Card: XFX ATI Radeon 4890 HD 900Mhz 1GB PCI-Express DVI XXX

I already got a DVD r/w sitting in its box from 2 years back, we bought it but never used it
Got mouse and keyboard too.

I was originally going to go for the i7 860 processor with an asus s1156 p55 motherboard but looked on reviews and the i7 920 is better value for money, allows triple channel memory and also that its easier to overclock (never done that before either, a real newby, lol). I'm very... erm... worried? Because I saved up for a computer for about 4 years and I don't wan't to screw anything up... this is all the money I saved up so I would wan't it to last for a long time to come. Ohh I will be playing on games like Crysis, Unreal Tournament III, Wolfenstein, Last Remenant etc. Tell me if I should get any extras or change anything and explain why, but not too much because this is already within my price (£900.67, cutting it close). I will be checking this thread tomorrow. Post away!

That's pretty good. However, I suggest you get the P6T SE for a motherboard and for the graphics card,5850 if you can afford it, or the 5770 If you can't.

Otherwise, keep that stuff, it's great.

Nice job man, i would personally recommend a EVGA x58 motherboard.
it all comes down to preference & budget

I'll think about the motherboard, I probably dont need a 850W so I could lower (maybe 700-750W) and lower internal memory, and get the that motherboard. What about the graphics card though? I know those 2 are DirectX11 cards but are they that much better then the 4890? The 4890 is DirectX10.1 but 256-bit while the 5850 and 5770 is a 128-bit? Is the performance that much greater?

I can't find an EVGA X58 on dabs, so probably not and yes I already choose a monitor silly xD I have to think of an OS though... with all the windows 7 out and stuff going on, not sure :\

i would really push and try too get the 5850, because it does out perform the 4890 and uses alot less power, but if that is out of the budget i would get the 5770 it doesnt outperform the 4890 and reviews shows it competes with a 4870 but its crossfire performance is outstanding, so basically you get one now and when they drop too around 100$ grab another thats my plan above grabbing 2 5770s

The 5770 is the equivalent of a 4870, but the benefits are much greater, future-wise.

5850 is 256-bit, and competes with the GTX 285 (thrashing it actually), while the 5870 is awesome.

Well I will most likely get the 5850 now to be honest, just have to wait a few more week so I can save up extra money, not sure which 5850 to get though, sapphire, XTX or ASUS (although thats like £3 higher but I donno why... other then vendor). I really would love to get the 5870, but that means I will most likely have to wait another... 5-6 weeks, probably worth it right? Ohh and will my PSU be able to take a 2nd 5870 in Crossfire in the future? Ohh and I heard about the so called 4870X2 and the 5870X2 (4.56 TFLOPS) coming out too!

Honestly, instead of the 4890 you should get a 5850 or 5770. Even a 5770 won't be too far off the 4890.

Also, you don't need that big of a power supply.

Also, do yourself a favor and buy a 1920x1080 LCD right from the get go. I wish I did.

Hmm the cheapest one with that resolution is about £24 extra but it doesn't come with DVI slot. I got a big PSU incase of future upgrades, thats really all.
