Default $1000 Intel Build

So I'm looking to build another gaming PC this time for family use with a $1000 budget overall including monitor, speakers, and operating system. Should be good on mouse and keyboard. I'm thinking I want to try out a quad core cpu if the price is reasonable enough as I have a dual core at the moment and wondering what the difference is between the two. So any suggestions appreciated

add a monitor and you're good to go.

and a dual -> quad is a great investment. not so noticeable doing everyday stuff but when you run GTA IV or encode, it's amazing. no lag when running a VM, encoding a DVD, AV scanning, and browsing the web while IMing and listening to music. my frames doubled when moving to a 3ghz q6600 from a 3ghz e2160

So will you be using this pc for hardcore gaming or anything? Or is it just for basic/everyday tasks?

It will be for family/gaming use. Brother will use it the most as he's been playing games on my pc. But I'm moving that upstairs so I figured I would build one for $1000 for downstairs use.
