USB 3.0 and SATA 6.0 will(probably) never catch on. Intel will start issuing devices with Light Peak support as early as Q3 2010 AFAIK. Light Peak starts at 10GB/s bandwidth, and will scale to 100GB/s over the next quinquennium. Also, these devices and cables will be available dirt cheap.

I would get a motherboard with esata if I were you(so your external drive has more than 480MB/s bandwidth).

Intel will not start supporting USB 3.0 until 2011+, so i think the new x58 will have Light Peak and i9 support.

I was under the impression that they're already being implemented. I could be wrong though.

Yes, that is a Gigabyte controller(most likely?). Intel's host controller won't be available for a while.

I think it's the same concept as Gigabyte including a JMicron sata controller to add another 2 SATA ports to my motherboard(EX58-UD3R).

Great build. It's worth it to get the UD5. It has 3 SLI/Crossfire pci slots instead of the two that come on the UD3R. You also get 6 memory slots.

OP: if you have a little more cash to blow(i think i read that somewhere a few posts back), having two 640GB caviar blacks in RAID 0 truly makes a difference. The 640GB version outperforms the 500GB and 750GB because of an extra platter or something(i can't remember...sorry). I would only get an SSD if you *really* need that extra bit of performance.

For cpu cooler, you can save $10 or so and get a MUGEN-2 without sacrificing any performance. It is VERY large though.

Very nice case. Antec 902 or 1200 should do just fine. The 902 is a 900 with dust filters and more cable management holes, and a black painted interior.

Nice build, but I would replace the mobo with either a Foxconn Bloodrage or a DFI LanParty UT T3eH8.

Yea enthusiast.
Lets see whats so enthusiast about it.
It has tri-channel memory.Whooh big deal.
And it has
uhm
Oh yeah, x16 x16 PCI-E
Which is relevant if you crossfire 5870's, but the peformance hit is minimal.
So it is only a viable option if you want to crossfire 5870 at least.
