I just started playing World of Warcraft with this gaming rig (specifications in my signature) and I get an acceptable 40+ FPS when in the open outside, even though I edited the view distance of the environment to be over twice as far. The problem is when I'm in a bustling city with lots of other players, my FPS drops to less than 30 at best, even down into the teens when moving the screen around.
__________________All of my settings are at the max except for anti-aliasing which is at 4x. I tried enabling each setting and seeing what kind of FPS gain I can get, and I only gain up to 5fps, usually only 2fps, if I lower any one setting down to minimum. Lowering shadows to a miserable blob of darkness increases FPS by 10, and even cutting anti-aliasing in half to 2x gets me 4fps. Removing my altered view status gets me up to 10fps but only in open environments where FPS isn't an issue anyway. In the city, lowering view distance nets no FPS gain at all. So if I lowered everything down to its minimum (except resolution and shadows) I'd get maybe 15 more fps, still noticeably jerky when moving the screen around. Any ideas as to why this might be? All other games I've played run fine at the maximum graphics, including Left 4 Dead, UT3, Far Cry 2, even Crysis runs at 30fps using high settings.

Set your affinity for wow to all 8 cores, you should see a +10 fps boost.
