AMD Overclocker
![]() |
Hey guys, its been a while, last time I posted was in 2005, I quited the PC world. Now I'm putting together a new system, basically for overclocking. I remember the old days AMD A-XP 2500+ was a dig for everyone to OC up to 2.2Ghz , same as A-XP 3200+, Barton core. lol thats old school. During those 5 years I was into automobile tuning, very expensive though. And my PC geekish level is 5 years behind lol
Please check my next rig with the followin hardwares, if its good or not, gimme your opinions, my goal is 4Ghz. Intel E5200 Gigabyte EP45-UD3R G.Skill F2-8500 2x1GB WD Caviar SE 16mb 2x500GB Raid 0 Asus Geforce 9800GT Zalman CNPS9500 OCZ ModXStream 700W Antec 300 case +2x additional 120mm fan The funny thing is the cost, all these parts together costs around me 750$, which is much less than a ball bearing garret turbocharger hahahha XD Gimme your opinions!

I would switch the GPU to HD4850 and CPU cooler to Scythe MUGEN2.
Oh and 700W is overkill for that system. Also, you will need a GOLDEN E5200 to run 4GHz 24/7.

hmm 434 sbc w/electronic fuel injection equipped with an msd ignition. twin turbo high ratio @ 20 lbs turning a stage 3 700r4 raptor and high strength steel driveshaft and loop to a quick change rear end @3.73 ratio....yeah, then a 500 hp boost of Nitrous if the crank will hold. total computer pwnage.
you should look into an i5/i7 at that price range and still get something fun out of it for gaming and overclocking.

you need a really good E5200 to run 24/7 as above said. Mugen 2 would do you good with that cooler.

I say its much more PITA to overclock a car from 130hp to 350hp than a computer
![]() ps: Rep+ budgetgamer! thanks for the info, I just figured out 9800gt is just a rebadged 8800gt. I forgot to mention the price is canadian dollar 670$ budget system not 760 I said on my first post.

have you started picking up the items in your build yet?
Cause I'd totally recommend a phenom II or athlon II setup with that kind of budget

On the low end of the spectrum, AMD is a much better choice. While you probably won't get 4ghz on an Athlon II x2 240, you should be able to get around ~3.8ghz and have a better all around system. Socket AM3 will have more longevity to it and you can upgrade the CPU later. LGA775 is an old socket, and while it is still pretty good, there is no point to buy new using it. If you already had a 775 system, a q9550 is a great drop in to still keep up.
__________________The Athlon II x2 240 will compete head on with the e6xxx and e7xxx series, and may even pull ahead at a high frequency. Do yourself a favor and read some reviews on the Athlon II series.

Intel is currently a better choice if your looking for 4GHz 24/7....
If you really want 4 Ghz get an i5 and one of the better cpu coolers available atm... Then get yourself like a HD5770 or a 5850... I realize you parts list before was ~750.... but you can put a PC together for 1000-1200 that would just be a monster if OC'd...
