Default i5 or i7

Hi all a while since i looked at upgrading.

Currently have and E8400 on a 790i.

Looking to upgrade and have noticed there is now i5 or i7 to choose from. For a gaming machine is there much to differentiate between the two. Budget wise £400 - £450 max

Would this enable me to go i7 with the CPU Mobo and Ram. Ofc being able to spend less is always good but is maybe that extra bit u would spend on and i7 over an i5 worth it.

Ta in Advance

as i understand it there are no games out the that would have any really advantage with i7 over i7 so i would get the i5 and save rest for next upgrade

always get the best you can afford.

though if you never intend on using more than 1 GPU then you may as well go i5.

As I am also reasearching this.

So if I go with the cheaper i5, I can only use one GPU.
i7, I can use multiple.

Are there other advantages/disadvantges? How is overclocking with the i5?

Will I see a performance jump going from my sig rig to an i5? Or i7 for that matter...

Did I miss something? Why can an i5 only ever use a single GPU?

you can use multiple gpu's in a 1156 socket (i5 and i7 860/870) but instead of the pcie lanes being x16x16 they will be x8x8. Unless you have 5870 x2 or better you won't see a difference and if you do have top of the line cards you will only see a 5% performance loss. Nothing to worry about

My fault, I misread the data.

What about performance going from the q6700 to one of the two?
