Question Asus P6T Deluxe vs Rampage II Gene...

Hello folks!

Earlier this week I was talking about building a new box here. I am in the final stages of getting all my components together.

I narrowed down my choices to two boards I like (due to specs/performance/reviews) but would like to know your input.

I have my eyes on:

ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard

and

ASUS Rampage II GENE LGA 1366 Intel X58 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

I will be running this setup with the i7-920 and OCZ Gold (6GB triple-channel).

Please let me know your thoughts...

The Gene is a miniATX board, which limits the PCI/PCIe slots. If they're both equal to you, I'd get the bigger board. An mATX board would look really small in the HAF

Did you consider the Rampage 2 Extreme?

I didn't even see you were putting this in a HAF haha. Yeah you should definitely get the P6T as you'll have room for sli + sound card if you want in the future. Also to the post above, if he was going to consider Rampage 2 Extreme, also think about the Classified E759 :P

Both are good boards. The Gene is mATX (as has been said) and will probably overclock slightly worse than the P6T Deluxe.

I'd get the Deluxe, unless you need an mATX board for a specific reason. It has a lot more slots available too.

ahh.........I can pipe in here as I have owned both of these products, and honestly, both are completely wonderful.

I would opt for the p6t deluxe just based off the fact that it is atx and not mAtx. It also overclocked slightly better for me as well.

Just BTW I love these boards... all of you are always friendly and offer decent input...

Sounds like I will be going with the P6T Deluxe... just gotta wait until I am off work and roll to Fry's and pick it up... can't go wrong with 3 x PCIe 2.0 x16, yay for CrossFire!

@xxbassplayerxx I did think about the Rampage 2 Extreme, but instead of throwing another 90$ at a board I was/am gonna settle for these two... just trying to stay in budget (or at least a little) :-)

Sounds like a good choice!

Are the boards priced fairly at Frys? I've heard their sales are good but their regular prices are pretty bad.

That is correct... however, they happen to do pricematching at the Renton location (not sure about other stores) and they will match the price from newegg.com/buy.com/geeks.com as long as you bring the copy in... so it is not too bad.

My thing about buying from a local store vs online; I can get online prices locally, no shipping charges and can walk in any day of the week for a return... can't really beat that (and I do not have to worry about the goods getting damaged in transit unless I am driving like a bat out of hell).
