All this "Tighter timings pwns higher MHz" stuff is fascinating, but in the end, the only thing that matters is cold, hard benchmark info. And as tough as Ropey, CWell1337, and others may find it to believe, a lot of those results are going to differ on a case to case basis.
I can hear Ropey now, starting with something like "All else being equal..." Sorry, but all else is rarely equal. ![]() As was mentioned before, a P965 chipset has FSB limitations, and a 1:1 ratio is not always the best choice, nor even preferable. The name of our game is overclocking, people. The big words at the top of the page say 'OVERCLOCK.NET', not 'TIGHTER TIMINGS.NET'. Carni4 has done a great job with his efforts. We should be praising him and encouraging him, not nitpicking and making a show of how we may (or may not) be.That is all.

Dude. No one is berating him for what he is doing. We are simply telling him what the consensus on the issue is among people who understand the issue.
And for you to say "the only thing that matters is cold, hard benchmark info."... this is exactly what Ropey, myself, and others are saying... the benchmarks are SYNTHETIC THEORETICAL BENCHMARKS. They test non real situations. The benchmarks aren't transferring data even in most cases, they are simply using the RAM as a repository. And no one said this was "tightertimings.net". As you said, there are situations where higher speeds may be desirable as opposed to tight timings. No one is refuting that. I was simply relaying the general concept of timings and RAM speed as I understand it, to try help other people understand it as well. And why wouldn't we nitpick and help him out and offer advice? What else is the point of this forum? I was under the understanding that people came here to ask questions, learn, and try to return the favor to the community by helping others. That doesn't seem to me like he thought I was being preachy or *** ever you are trying to imply. And by the way... We may be on the "Overclock.net" forum, but what does it say underneath that on the front page? "The Pursuit of Performance" Seems to me if messing with RAM timings and dividers gives you different results, then tweaking them falls into the "Pursuit of Performance" area rather nicely. If all you want to do is congratulate people, go ahead. I personally will continue to offer up my opinions and my thoughts as long as I am here. And if you think what I'm doing is wrong, well then maybe I am on the wrong forum.

Keep in mind PROBN that the test you're looking at is a RAM test.

Yeah, you're right about the stock. Hmmm... I wonder what kind of RAM he's running.

Those are excellent clocks man! Team memory is great because it is hand picked. IMO Team and Crucial are the better companies to go with because you are guaranteed Micron D9's.
