Default Gigabyte 965p S3 and PC2-8500?

I'm going to buy a E6600 core duo processor and 2GB of ram soon.
Because the bus speed of the core duo is 1066mhz, PC-8500 ram would be the best choice as its the same speed...

My manual for my Gigabyte 965p S3 says PC6400 max, I have 2X512mb PC6400 running at 900Mhz at the moment

If I bought PC-8500 Ram Could I run it at 1066Mhz with this board?

Thanks

With the right rev and bios flash, from what i've heard, you can pull off those speeds. But that board has been known to flake out at the higher frequencies. I'm planning on getting one myself anyway.

No, it would run at 6400 speeds, but you could overclock to that speed.

Because he already has an S3. He is getting RAM. Read the thread please.

The memory will work fine. To get to PC2-8500 speeds, you will have to overclock, or set the RAM to run faster in the BIOS.

Yeah dude reset your BIOS and slap them in. It'll run it at whatever speed just set your memory multi to 2.0 and go for it make sure you have the right voltage on those sticks the S3/DS3 defaults to 1.8v

Ok, S3 is almost exact the same as DS3, the only difference is the solid caps.

PC-8500 will work fine for ya. It'll allow you a higher OC, or it will run below the 8500 rates speed. Either way it would serve you well.
