Okay...getting back to one of the central issues:

I've got my E4300 o/c'd to 3.0GHz (334x9), and had my G.SKILL 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5400) at 1:1 (334MHz) manually set to 4-4-4-12 at 2.00 volts. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231049

Today I thought, "why not go for it" and bumped the ram up to the next speed (PC-6400, if I remember)--no problems. However, instead of 1:1 ratio, I now have 4:5 ratio.

The bottom line is ratio is no indication of added/reduced performance, correct?

Thanks,
Paul

That means your memory is running faster than your FSB.... FSBRAM is the ration you are getting...and that's supposedly good from the info provided in this thread...

I just went into my bios and adjusted a few things...got a 3:4 going on now...

Ram is 327.3 (about 655MHz) and FSB is 245.5
Had to loosen the timings just a bit from 3-3-3-8 to 4-4-4-8...didn't bump the voltage up any...still stock 1.80v I don't think i want to mess with the volts on this Dell memory that i bought on sale, lol.

About to do a 3DMARK05 test and see if i get any performance changes worth mentioning

As promised, here's my final overclock:

Summary:

E4300 @ 334x9 (3.0GHz)
G.Skill DDR2 667 (PC2 5400) 4-4-4-12 @ 836MHz (PC2 6400+) 4-4-4-12

So...any reason to worry about the Trc going up to 20?

Please...I thought I had a weak grasp on timings. But, now I'm totally confused. Main reason? A completely different intermixing of terminology during conversations. If the terminology could be explained and nailed down, I could follow the logic much easier.

Thank you all (especially Paul) for the explanation to how memory, latencies and bandwidth works .... I have a much clearer picture to what I should be looking for when I go to buy my new memory soon.

Once again, thank you .... this kind of thorough break-down explanation was one of the reasons why I joined this site

Cheers.

Just a slight update to your guide. DDR2 runs at an actual speed of 200MHz, not 400MHz, and as it transfers 4 bits per clock, it's effective speed is 4x 200 = 800MHz.

DDR3 is 8 bits per clock, so divide effective speed by 8 to get actual speed.
