Stability problems - memory related probably.

I've gotten my system (sig) quite stable at 3GHz... however I can't seem to push it further - if I rev it up to 3,2GHz system won't boot at all. Thank god for the BIOS auto-reset on OC failure & ASUS' OC profiles
__________________![]() I found that relaxing the timings to 5-5-5-15 from the stock 4-4-4-12 got the system up and running but failed an Othos Blend test in about 5 hrs. I suspect that memory was the culprit there. Does anyone have experience with OCing Corsair PC6400 CL4 memories? I'd be interested in stable voltage for them at anything past 400Mhz FSB. How wise would it be to push them past the rated 2.1V?

you could give them 2.2v, i think youd be ok with that..anything above that is kind of iffy

I s'pose... but is there anyway to determine what was the cause of the Orthos failure? I suspect the RAM since my CPU is stable at 1.27 @ 3Ghz and it's unlikely it would be unstable at 1.35 @ 3.2Ghz. Also the memory wouldn't boot with 4-4-4-12 at that speed; I had to relax the timings for the PC to POST.

If theres any way for you to return those sticks and get different ones (Crucial or G.Skills) then you should do so asap.
__________________I had those sticks and could not get them to OC above 830MHz, not even at 2.2v and 5-5-5-15. Didnt try any higher voltage coz i didnt want to fry them. It could also be that ur NB is in need of some more volts, above 400MHz thats usually the case. If u aim at getting a high clock via the FSB then ur outta luck with those RAMs m8.

That's basically what I feared. Unfortunately I can't switch them for anything better so I guess I'm stuck on just a mild overclock. Thanks for the input.

I noticed you guys both have asus boards. I have a striker extreme and I have been having some ram related issues (i believe). I have been trying to get my ballistix to run @ 1066mhz @ 5,5,5,15,2t,30. For some reason crapping out at 1000mhz. One thing I noticed is that my ram doesnt like volts over 1.9v or so. I'm guessing this is a voltage issue somewhere else. What voltages in the bios most relate to those of the ram??
