He must set his ram voltage to its stock first. But I will look to see if there is a patch.

Edit: There is not on for XP, its probably being caused by XP SP2 being funny with 4GB or him not setting the voltage.

I mean I own the retail, and microsoft made it so you cant slipstream SP1, and I don't like having to take my ram out all the time, its hard on the connectors.

With a error like this microsoft needs to offer SP1 intergrated upgrade discs for like $15...
How do you reformat once a month? Doesnt that get annoying having to call MS and explain why you have to re-activate every month?

Much easier to just defrag...

You are not using over 3gb of ram. Or you have never had problems with over 3gb.

When you say can't get into windows, do you mean it starts loading windows then bluescreens or you can't post.

If you can't post i recommend upping the NB voltage a bit and the Mem voltage and see what happens.

Also, put your timings to 4-4-4-12 2T at 800Mhz.

I am about to install Vista 64 on a X38 machine with 4GB (2X2GB) RAM. The motherboard (Formula SE) boots fine with the 2x2GB installed, but for the Vista installation, I take it I should do this:

1. Remove 1 stick, totalling 2GB
2. Format new HDD
3. Install Vista
4. Prevent auto update or any other form of update
5. Download/Install the hotfix
6. Reboot
7. Install all Vista updates

Is that it?
