I just joined today, and I must say to going from 4GB of DDR2-800 to 8GB of DDR2-1000 there is a difference in performance. Things are are a bit quicker, and smoother then they were with the 4GB set.

Now up to 8GB, all I need now is a DX10 card.

Even manipulating many hundreds of huge files in Photoshop CS3 I only saw a tiny weeny difference going from 2 to 4GB Ram so I don't think I'll be upping to 8GB any time soon.

I noticed a difference in performance going from 4GB to 8GB in Vista 64. I don't know if that has to with the increase in Ram or just going from DDR2-800 (@ 900mhz) to DDR2-1000. I wouldn't think the extra 100mhz would make that much of a difference but what do I know.

Indeed i noticed a small increase in performance as well, be it from knowing i got 8 gigs or it just simply feels a bit faster, comparing to a 4gig system i do seem to have the edge, especially while using superfetch!

Have any of you guys ran any benchmarks at 4GB versus 8GB? Particularly gaming benchmarks? I can see some use for hardcore editting, but for gaming I just can't see any benefit. I'd love for someone to prove me wrong with some quantitative results (sorry I just don't trust what "feels" faster to you unless there's a placebo PC in the group )
