Right i have just run wprime and it says my RAM timings are C1 5-5-5-15..you can see my RAM in my sig pc6400 2x1 kit ballistix, i cant remember where i saw it but i saw that these sticks should be at C4 4-4-4-12?.. first off is this true and if so do i cage it in the bios? cos when i goto manual settings there are far more changable feilds than makes sence :-( sorry i am still a noob.. any ideas would be useful especially if i can get some more performance out of my machine...

This guide explains what timings are, what the letters stand for, and what their purposes are.

People who are new to memory timings only need to take notice of 5 timings. Firstly, Command Rate (either 1T or 2T). Then the four timings that correspond to 5-5-5-15: Cas, Trcd, Trp, Tras.

In order to run at the advertised timings, you also need to run at the advertised voltage, which is 2.2V (default is 1.8V).

pretty much dont mess with the other values except for the first four...change them to 4-4-4-12, and set your command rate to 2T. also, make sure your voltage settings are up to snuff...dont undervolt or overvolt by using voltage not specified for these modules.

Yes, if your CPU is not overclocked, you should have your Ballistix set to DDR2 800, with 4-4-4-12 timings. The memory comes underclocked to 5-5-5-15 because some motherboards don't provide enough voltage by default, so the memory comes underclocked so that even in those motherboards the memory will still boot up. And yes, you need to change the timings in the BIOS.

Here's what you need to find and change:
tCL (CAS Latency) to 4
tRCD to 4
tRP to 4
tRAS to 12

well i am o/c'd to 2.7ghz at the mo does that make much difference?

The 4-4-4-12 timings are rated for 800MHz. If your memory is running faster than that, the timings need to be set to higher numbers to prevent instability. Timings need a certain amount of time to function. You increase speed, a clock cycle lasts for less time, so give them more clock cycles to compensate.

yep, just go into the bios and change the timings that say 5-5-5-18 to 4-4-4-12
EDIT: as long as your running stock...if not, you may need to loosen (make higher) the timings

ok so is there a programme that tells me weather my RAM is running faster (better) when i change the timings i notice that it puts a divider on of 2/3 when i set it to 1/1 it was only running at 300mhz now i have put the timings to 4-4-4-12, t2 the clock is 900mhz is that too high for my RAM? oh volts are set to 2.2
