Default Upgraded my memory to 8gigs and now it is slower?

I am wondering if more memory can actually slow down my computer? I upgraded to 8 gigs of Gskill (PC-8000) from 4 gigs of OCZ (PC-6400) and now my computer runs significantly slower. I am lost on this one....

I have no clue if this could be the problem, but your operating system may not support 8 gigs of memory. Vista 32 bit, for example, only supports up to 4 gigs of memory.

How do you mean slower? Like if you run superpi, is the result slower, or does your system just seem sluggish?

if all the slots are being used, then it's not dual channel. If you by chance have two 4Gb sticks running in the same colored slots, then yes it's in dual channel. For example yellow+yellow or orange+orange is dual channel OR if your running yellow+orange then it's still not dual channel. The colors are just reference.

I run Matlab a lot and when I had 4 gigs my code took 11 secs and now that I have 8 gigs it takes 21 secs! Windows Vista also downgraded my memory performance.

When I look at CPU-Z it says the memory is in dual channel and running at 400mhz.

it's because you're not using dual channel anymore.
