Default Ram Issue

Hello all-

So i have narrowed an issue i have been having with my computer to the ram in the computer.

i recently purchesed a brand new 2x2gig set, which you can find here .

i have been having an issue where suddenly, during gaming, i the game freezes and somtimes the screen flashes. the sound continues to play but i cannot alt tab or move the image on the screen in any way.

i assumed it could be my new ram, after 4 passes on Memtest 86, it reported no errors

i put my 2gig set (that was in this machine before i upgraded) into the computer. the issue has been removed, i hav been able to play unaffected for serveral hours, when the error would normally occur in teh first 30mins of play.

If Memtest 86 did not find any errors, could it be an issue between my Vista 64 and the 4gigs of ram? i have installed all the hotfixes associated with ram and vista. perhaps lowering the ram from 4gig to 2gig fixed the issue and there is somthing wrong with my motherboard?

at this point, should i just RMA the ram?
thanks for the help guys!

Best-
Trevor

If there were no errors on memtest I'd be more inclined to think it was your motherboard.

However it can't hurt to RMA the RAM and try another 4 gig set however to be sure.

Were you overclocking the RAM at all? If not did you check your BIOS and make sure it was defaulting to the right settings?

You are not OCing the CPU? The Dominators are only guaranteed to run at their rated speed and timings ( 1066 MHz @ 5-5-5-15).

Try upping the trfc to like 52 or 54 that helps on some 2x2gig kits you could go higher also to see if it helps out.

tRFC is a setting only find at board with Intel chipset, you have Nvidia chipset so you donīt have it.

You put more stress on the NB with quad then with dual and also with 4Gb then with 2Gb and usually when you got freeze your NB (SPP) is not stable and you have to bring your NB volt up.

To stress test your NB you can run Prime95, blend test and ATI Tools, scan for artifacts at the same time.
