Default RAM/Motherboard Issue

Hello there, I have two sticks of some generic 1GB PC2-5300; it came with my PC. However, I get system beeps when two sticks are inserted. I've concluded that the sticks are fine but it seems that the slot is a bit unreliable and the system boots successfully when I physically push quite firmly but it comes to a freeze a half minute later and beeps momentarily after resetting. I have a feeling the RAM is coming slightly loose in its slot and I have narrowed this down to one particular slot. The motherboard itself is some generic of the Intel 946PL/GZ chipset that came with this HP dx2300. There are only 2 slots on the motherboard. Is there any little quick fix I can perform or am I just having to get a new motherboard.

You could try a 2gb stick in the good slot.

If it is the slot, not much you can really do but get a new board at least as far as i know.

Try the memory in a friends computer or something. How did you conclude that the sticks are fine? Can you your rig right now? My advice is to first RMA the RAM, and if it still doesn't work, RMA the mobo.

Both sticks work fine is Slot #1, however Slot #2 is just screwy. I can't RMA anything as this is a business PC just given to me. So there's no little fix I can do, just get one 2GB stick is the cheapest way?
