Default 4GB RAM on Windows XP 32

If I were to install Windows XP 32 on a system with 2x2GB modules...
Does it read only 3GB or does it not work at all?
Any other issues?

Thanks.

You need a 64bit OS to use all 4GB of your ram.

It should read 3.5GB or 3.2GB. If you want it to read all of it you need 64Bit OS.

Yes, 3.5GB-3.2GB in a 32 bit OS, and you will see your full 4GB of ram in a x64 bit OS.

I never thought about this because I never had enough ram to fill up those slots, I had no idea you needed a 64-bit OS to just use higher RAM. I suppose thats how you get the magic 8gb number then?
Who makes quad slot mother boards? I don't remember if the new Nvidia one has enough room or not.
