Any DDR2 should work. These would be hard to beat for $19 after MIR...they can also move to your next system when you need to upgrade:

OCZ Platinum Revision 2 (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel

I guess you realize Dell oem systems and the mobo's can be picky with what ram is compatable or not, and the voltages?

I believe you are far too knowledgeable to suggest anyone purchase Ballistix right now since their failure rate is currently so high.
As for compatibility, Dell and OCZ seem to get along. Dell actually sells OCZ from their site as an upgrade. Here is a link to OCZ Forums addressing compatibility:

1. *** is that supposed to mean?
2. Crucial makes more than Ballistix ram
3. For older Dell systems, value ram 1.8v is usually the most compatable
4. Since the OP did not list their system model # the system scanner can suggest an upgrade route with compatability information
5. I may have some knowledge about older Dell systems since I've owned several over the last 10 years until recently
6. Help the OP with your expertise and have a happy holiday

I was not speaking tongue in cheek. I know from reading many of your posts that you are very knowledgeable. I also own a Dell Dimension and have upgraded the RAM in it. Dell sells 53 different OCZ sticks. Each of the PC6400 should boot at 1.8v without a problem. I suggested Those instead of value RAM because they are $15-20 cheaper (after MIR) and are of enough quality be used in the next system the Professor builds.
Sorry if you thought I was patronizing you or in any way meant any disrespect. It was not my intention.
Happy Fourth.
