Default Need advice upgrading my RAM

Hey.

I have the OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) kit installed in my system with 4-4-4-15 timings. Im thinking about making an upgrade in the next few months as prices drop. Im hoping this PC will survive most games thrown at it for the next 4 - 5 years, i can run Crysis on very high so its doing a good job so far.

If i just brought the exact same 2gb kit and had 4gb total, would i be future-proofed? Would 4gb do me for the next 5 or so years?

If not, what would be the best action to take now? Find a 4-4-4-15 4gb kit?

Thanks.

I think 4gb will be enough for a few years yet, not sure about 5 years but quite possibly.

2x2gb kits are pretty cheap now anyway though, so might be an idea to just get that, also 2x2gb is better than 4x1gb. Then sell your current ram on ebay or whatever to get some of the money back.

but yeh, to futureproof, and as its pretty cheap, id just go for 2x2gb (4-4-4-12) at the moment.

So you think just buy a 4gb kit with similar timings?

I would be totally happy with 6gb total.

4GB should be fine. You can use different timing rams but I prefer to sell your current ram and find a good deal on 1066 2x2GB kit such as 4-4-4-12.

Do you mean 4gb total should be fine? Or an extra 4gb kit should be fine? I found an OCZ 4gb kit with 4-4-4-15 timings, would that be fine?

Total 4GB. Yes, you can do 4X1GB but I would prefer 2x2GB kit over 4X1GB. No data shows prefermance difference between 2x2GB and 41XGB kit but it becomes tricky once you OC on certain level on the 4x1GB one. It is a stability issue for some boards.
