Default Memory & stability

I just ran Memtest86 for 5 and a half hours (7 test passes, 0 errors)

So here is my question: Is there any point to doing a blend/memory test via Prime95 or OCCT? Or should i focus on CPU stressing since memtest86 returned positive results?

thanks in advance

Yes. Memtest simply tests your memory for accurate data being moved about. It is really just a memory benchmark. Prime95 or OCCT is meant to stress test your CPU, to make sure it can calculate things without making errors. It adds a lot of stress, and builds up a lot of heat. If the CPU can pass this stress and heat load (while still being within a reasonable amount) It can be considered stable. Typically, nothing your computer will ever run will make the CPU hotter than prime95. If you Prime for 8 hours and are still in a safe temperature zone, then the OC is good, and you might be able to push it even farther.

If the CPU is unstable, the chip will make computational errors, and will show errors on prime/occt, and will stop the test or crash the computer entirely depending on how severe the error is. I have been able to run memtest just fine, but when running prime95, it failed and started showing errors after only a short time. I would recommend both, and Im sure others would as well.

I run at least 6 loops of Memtest and between 8H and 12H of Prime95, Small FFT.

Neither Prime95 blend, nor Memtest86+ are all that great for memory stability testing, IMO.

Prime95 (or OCCT, or Orthos) are primarily CPU tests, while memtest86+ is single threaded only and cannot duplicate the kinds of memory lstresses you will see in windows.

They are both useful tools, but to really be sure memory is stable when overclocking, you need to use a memory specific-multithreaded test. I recommend TestMem's S&M (http://testmem.narod.ru/snm.htm) or multiple instances of HCi Design's MemTest (http://www.hcidesign.com/memtest/).
