Default 1:1 worth dropping system multiplier?

My processor runs at x8 by default, but I can't seem to achieve a 1:1 ratio without dropping my ram much lower than my desired 533MHz. Whenever I drop the multiplier for the CPU down to x7 the system won't start (but setting the bus at 533 at anything higher is like 4.7GHz and the computer definitely won't start then). Not sure what to do?

Edit: Actually, whenever I drop the multiplier to anything other than x8 the system won't start. Don't know if that is because my system doesn't like the 533 bus speed or the processor doesn't like any other multiplier?

It sounds like your only option for the 1:1 ratio is to drop down your RAM speed if you want it that badly. If you're gonna drop your CPU multiplier down to 7, then you're probably gonna need to put more volts through the CPU to keep it stable. What volts are you running at currently with the multiplier at 8?

I can run the vcore as low as 1.34 I think at x8 and maintain stability. Random *noob* question is it bad to run the ram at an awkward speed to achieve a 1:1? Like, just for giggles I put the bus at 425 at x8 for the CPU and get 3.4GHz and a 1:1 with the ram at 425Mhz. Not sure if that's ok? Or should I only stick with core numbers 333, 400, 533, etc...

425 is perfectly fine. That'll have it running at 850. It doesn't hurt to run it at different speeds. You can do whatever you want with it really as long as it's stable.

1:1 is overrated. It may look cool under cpu-z to see "1:1" but thats about it. there is no real performance increase just by having 1:1 alone.

So a 5:6 or 4:5 is ok if I'm maxing out my CPU and pushing my ram past it?

It's not okay.

It's better.

You can run a tighter tRD with a lower FSB as well.

I used to have something like a 7:8 ratio, so i lowered my ram speed for 1:1 and the vista ratings for my ram went up a whole .1, so there is a slight differnce.

I agree. I tested a 1.1 ram ratio with slower ram speeds with tighter timings vs 2.3 ram ratio with higher ram speeds and 5-5-5-15 timings. The 2.3 ram ratio on super pi was 2 seconds faster and I ran the test 3 times.

Try FSB 450 and ram ~1080 5-5-5-15 or ~1128 5-5-5-15, that should give you a pretty good performance.

1:1 is no good with a Intel chipset, any other ratio give you little better performance.
