Default IC Info needed on 2x2 GB DDR2 kit

I need to buy a 2x2 GB Kit of DDR2 for one of my systems. IC info is limited on many of these kits (obviously I want Micron D9s)

What is available here in Canada is as follows:

OCZ DDR2 4GB (2x2048) OCZ2FXT11504GK PC2-9200 Flex II $195

OCZ (OCZ2P10664GK) DDR2 PC2-8500 1066 MHz Platinum Series 4GB $150

OCZ 4GB (2x2048) OCZ2RPR10664GK DDR2 PC2-8500 Reaper HPC $123

G.SKILL DDR2 PC2 8500 4GB kit (8 Layers PCB) (F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK) $121

G.SKILL DDR2 PC2 8500 (8 Layers PCB) 4G (F2-8500CL5D-4GBPI) $159

Corsair XMS2 Dominator TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF $168

Mushkin XP2-8500 DDR2-1066 4GB (2x2GB) Extreme Performance Series $151

Any info would be much appreciated. All the kits above are in the same general price range (about $121 to $195) so price really isn't a factor.

thanks

Well after some more digging, turns out all of the above kits with the exception of Mushkin (which is unknown) use Powerchip IC's.

There are no 2GiB DDR2 dimms that use good micron D9s. The renown D9GMH and D9GKX are only 64MiB per IC, so 2GiB dimms cannot be nade with them, unless 32 ICs are used, which is extremely rare.

The G.Skill PIs, and most other high rated 2GiB use powerchip ICs.

You are mistaken.

Not only are they very average for their IC, they are Powerchips.

And to top it off, they have uselessly tall heatspreaders that cause space/clearance issues.

Dear god, i keep hammering the same damn thing around here...maybe if we both keep hammering the message, people will finally wake up & realize Micron has a few select good ICs, that's it.

And they do not make anything good in 2 GB form!

Robilarp, I see your post on XS

Every single high end 2x2 GB kit uses Powerchips.*

Including all the Mushkins.

You think you want Micron, but you don't actually.

Micron is good in 2x1 GB form, sure, but it's not in 2x2 GB.

What you want is in front of you, Powerchips.

*Crucial Ballistix 2x2 GB are still an unknown IC, but i don't recommend Crucial or Micron right now, as you're assured a high failure rate.

Wow.

After both Blameless & I post too.

Please, take off your heatspreaders & show me these D9s.

Good luck writing over top of the Powerchip ICs they have underneath.

I suppose it's possible they are HNL or something similar, but that seems unlikely for PC8500 unless they are rated for stupid high voltage.

Anything is possible in theory.

But i'd bet very good money on PSC underneath every 2x2 GB single kit mentioned thus far in this thread. (assuming no smart-ass edits their posts )
