A friend of mine is using this RAM in his Toshiba laptop. He has no complaints. If your friend's lappy is anything like my buddy's though he may not be able to use both sticks as he may only have one available RAM slot. Sometimes what manufacturers do is install one module under the keyboard (which is inaccessible unless you take the laptop apart) and leave one slot open (on the bottom underneath a removable cover) for future expansion.
If he only has one slot available like in the possible situation I mentioned above then I would use this 1GB module to get him to 4 GB. I hope this helps. If you have any questions about what I said let me know.
