Default FSB at 440 - should I upgrade RAM?

Hi,

I've recently been runnig my Q9300 at 3,3GHz: 440 x 7,5. My RAM runs at 880 MHz / 1:1 and seem stable, although I've had some issues (reboot) when setting RAM settings to manual in bios (FSB freq. ~ 333 / DRAM freq. ~ DDR2-880MHz).
Perhaps I'm missing something(?). When the settings are on auto my system seem stable.. Memtest86+ passes as well.

Anyways, should I upgrade to 1066 MHz? Will I notice increased performance?

I've been looking at Corsair Dominator 8500. Any alternatives? If you know any online sellers shipping RAM internationally I'll buy abroad - the Dominators aren't in stock here anyway

If you suggest sticking to 6400, I'm still going to upgrade them to get better timings (mine are at 5-5-5-18). Something tells me I'll gain some performance either way.

I would upgrade, but corsair dominators are overpriced, try crucial or ocz, mushkin, patriot to name a few.

880 isn`t much of an overclock on the ram. they should be able to handle more.
maybe try loosening the timings and give it a bit higher voltages.
my OCZ 800 ram runs at 1000mhz without any problems.
i just had to loosen the timings from 4-4-4-15 to 5-5-5-18 and give 0.2v more.

I wouldn't upgrade unless you can sell and purchase for a very minimal amount of cash. 800mhz and 1066mhz on DDR2 ram is really not all that much. I don't notice much difference if I downclock my ram.

Now if you're just looking for some head room to overclock your FSB then thats different. But for performance reasons, it's not going to excite you.

Thanx for the replies. How much price difference are you experiencing between, say the dominators and ocz reaper?
I'm only seeing 15-20 $ differences, and thats with the corsair's fan included..

Guess the OCZ and Mushkin aren't too represented here in norway. Gskill I can't even find.

I just got a refund for the 4gb Corsair Dominator w/ fan kit.
These http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145197

They wouldn't run at DDR2 1066 speeds in my setup. Right now I am looking at these OCZ Reaper HPC DDR2 1150 (PC2 9200) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227196

If you really need 4GB and don't mind (4x1gb) than this would cost you $110 after tax and free shipping. Only one rebate per household. Thats only if you have enough headroom with these tall heatsinks. More 4GB (2x2GB) sets will be coming out later, hopefully with improved speeds and stability.
