Hi, I'm just sitting on the fence of what to do with my ram upgrade. I'm pretty sure I need more, just so that I can task-switch faster (my friend's computer with 4 gb takes half the time to get out of a game

I also want to run fakefactory cinematic mod (HL2 mod with massive textures, 3 gb minimum) So, as my sig shows, I currently have 2 gb of Corsair PC6400 twin2x c4 ram (at stock clocks and timings ). I want this to be the last time I change my ram for the next 5 years or so (when I move up to DDR3 mobo and ram). I was thinking of just getting another 2 sticks of the same stuff I've got now, but I will be simultaneously upgrading to vista x64, so it's not like I'm going to be capped at 3.5ish gb. I also plan to eventually overclock my CPU, and I've heard that 4 dimm slots filled puts more stress on the northbridge, stress which could otherwise be used for a higher and more stable overclock So, I got looking and 2x2 gb of that OCZ PC6400 isn't much more coin than 2x1 gb Corsair. Or maybe I should shell out a little more and move up to 1066 ram.So, basically, I don't know which option to go for The 4x1 gb corsair might not be enough ram to run games in 5 years, and either of the PC6400 options might be slower than optimal by that time. And either of the 2x2 gb options give me a possible 6 gb ram at 800 mhz c4 timings, if something really needs the extra ram bad (using 2x1 corsair with 2x2 xyz).Oh, and I have read that article on ram which basically concluded PC6400 was all you really needed, but I personally doubt that there will always be negligible performance increases when moving up the food chain. Thanks a lot for anybody who at least read this far

Hey mate, yes you want 2x2gb sticks as you will have more problems overclocking you cpu when using 1x1gb sticks of ram.. Here are some great ram that i recommend to everyone whos gonna upgrade ram, G skill pq's are great ram for general use and extremely good for overclocking..http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231145 or you could spend a bit more and go with the HZ's with overclock better as they use micron d9 chips.. only bad thing about HZ sticks as they only come in 1x 1gb sticks so their a 2gb pack heres the link anyway http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231065 i'd personally go the pq's i linked in the first link as their good overclockers and 4gb is better then 2 , enjoy

lol i guess that depends on how fast you expect your ram to go, its no 1066 kit but its good ram for the price! personally, i've always liked corsair XMS for speed, i hear OCZ is great too, but size is more important than speed in most cases when it comes to ram. of course, you will see a performance increase but it won't be as big of an increase as a faster processor.

g.skill will not overclock well, and only perform well at their stock speeds... so if you do go with g.skill, you will have to get 1066 mhz or even 1100 mhz versions...
__________________although you will have a tough time OC'ing with 1x1 GB sticks, 2x2 is slightly better, but still not very good... I would recommend you stick with a 2x1 GB sticks for best OC'ing capability OC'ing ability (if all RAM were the same): 1x1 < 4x1 < 2x2 < 2x1

I recently bought 2 more sticks of the twinx corsair series and updated to 64bit vista and I am enjoying it very well. I've gotten 4 copies of wow running at the same time without a problem. Multiple programs running and being able to switch between them almost instantly.
