I looked through the 1-4 egg reviews. Aside from a few people who apparently got DOA chips, or damaged in shipping, all of them failed to set up the voltage and timings in BIOS properly. In other words, the RAM was fine, the user needs to be replaced.

Newegg reviews are not always a great indicator on the quality of RAM. To insure the RAM is running as described sometimes you have to just a touch more than just pop it into a DIMM slot. I own the normal Mushkin XP2's (the ones that TwoCables linked) and I say without a doubt that it is solid RAM just like my Redlines (the Mushkin PC8000 set) were. I'm sure the Ascents only take that quality further.

All I'm saying is that the Ascent version of the XP sticks have more negative reviews than the regular XP's. Actually, I bought my 996580 kit because of the reviews. If it weren't for that, then I would have ended up with the Ascent sticks.

Oh, I also bought my 996580 because of the reviews. Then again I was a noob. It was only much later, after joining this forum and reading a LOT, that I learned how to detect BS reviews.

I was fortunate that these sticks are real beasts. I've got my 996580 sticks to 1081, but never past 1100. Didn't try too hard, though, nor see much of a reason to. The OP wants something that will go up to 1200.

Yeah, I know he wants to get 1200MHz. But, I was just saying that just to get it out there.

I hear Mushkins and Dominators overclock extremely well.

Users are very expensive though and have no warranty. If only they had a step-up program

I have two 996619 kits and a separate single 991619 stick (identical PCB and ICs). None of these five sticks even comes close to DDR1200, and I'm quite well aware of how to tweak timings, skews, and voltages. I'm also using a board that has proven to handle DDR-1250+ with other memory.

In my experience, the Ascent do clock a bit higher, and they are a bit less sensitive to temperature.

My non-ascent sticks had very poorly attached heatspreaders and they also use a different PCB from the Ascents (the non ascent uses an older Brain Power board, and the Ascents use something else, maybe a custom mushkin PBC).

I assume that you mean the "old" ballistix with the double sided PCB's and really good memory chips.... those are hard to find though (especially the Tracers, which is what I would want). It is something to look into though.
