The intial release of all kits had more or less the same performance, but the current 1200 kits are higher binned.

Will buying from Amazon give me a higher binned version of the 1200?

If it's a 1200mhz kit, it's as high as you'll get binning wise, the rest is up to the luck of the draw.

I don't understand it, I thought a higher binned 1200 kit can go higher than 1200?

My take on "binned"
Both the 1066 and 1200 version are exactly the same chips. but just like all Q6600 don't all Overclock the same as the next Q6600. Memory sticks all don't reach the same MHz as it's Identical brother. OCZ checks the OC capabilities of each stick. if it passes the test for 1200 MHz testing then it gets to leave the factory with a 1200 MHz sticker on him, but if his brother right next to him did not meet OCZs requirement for 1200 MHz then he gets a 1066 MHz sticker. but His little ass might still hit 1199Mhz (note 1199MHz not guaranteed on 1066 sticks )I hope this helps somebody.

But As the post above me states, OCZ only guarantees that the sticks will do 1200mhz, they might max out at 1205mhz, or they might do 1500mhz. It's a crapshot.

Ahh. So if you buy, say (2) 2x2GB 1200 kit in Amazon, the OC capabilities of both may not be the same? And no one knows the max capability of each?

But it's usually a good bet that these early kits will get good overclocks, in the 1300mhz range like the OP did.
